For the seventeenth year in a row, the SEMANTiCS Conference will take place again this year. The conference organizers are already well-rehearsed and accustomed to hosting the lively event, but nevertheless, each year there are new faces to meet, exciting experiences to share, and lots of new things to learn.
This year, SEMANTiCS 2022 will have many interesting talks, workshops, and tutorials to attend regarding Linked Data, Semantic AI, and Data Science.

SEMANTiCS 2022 Programme

The programme runs for three days from September 13-15. The following is a summary of each of those days.

September 13

On the first day, which is a Tuesday, the programme will focus on workshops and tutorials. Guests can choose to attend the DBpedia Keynote and DBPedia Day, and various workshops and tutorials – each of which cover either the morning block before lunch or the afternoon block following the lunch break. All of these programme events will take place at the “Arcotel Wimberger hotel”.

The programme sessions will cover many topics from Semantic AI to structured content to FAIR ontologies. The breaks in between provide the ideal atmosphere to exchange ideas about what has been discussed and to enjoy the buffet.

At 7 p.m. the “Vienna Data Meetup” starts at the University of Applied Sciences FH Campus Wien

September 14

On the second day, Wednesday, there will be 14 different sessions divided into topics such as “Privacy,” “Risk,” “Taxonomies,” or “Knowledge Hub.” Furthermore, there will be keynote speeches in the morning and after the lunch break.

In the evening, dinner will be held at the Viennese Heurigen “Mayer am Pfarrplatz” starting at 7:30 p.m.

September 15

Thursday marks the final day of the conference and its sessions. This time, topics such as “Fact extraction,” “Legal,” “Entity handling,” and “Ontology governance” will be discussed.

The programme will conclude with an award and closing ceremony at 5 p.m.

SWC at SEMANTiCS

This year, the Semantic Web Company (SWC) continues to have a heavy presence at SEMANTiCS as organizer, sponsor, and speaker at many talks.

Martin Kaltenböck, CFO of SWC, will not only be one of the speakers at the welcome and closing speeches, but will also contribute to the “1st Workshop on Semantic AI” and speak in the session “Semi-automated Generation of Multilingual Domain-specific Taxonomies.”

Andreas Blumauer, CEO of SWC, will also share his knowledge on recommender systems in the talk “Knowledge-based Recommendation Systems as a Cornerstone of the Digital Workplace” and participate in the presentation “The Global Knowledge Graph Market: State of Play and Upcoming Trends“.

SWC will not shy away from the LTI sessions either: Florian Bauer, Chief Solutions Officer, will show us how to make corporate data fit for the future in the talk “Multilingual Taxonomies and Knowledge Graphs as a Basis for Semantic AI Applications“.

Researchers Victor Mireles and Anna Breit and Director of Research Artem Revenko will also share their knowledge about language models in the talk, “Learning ontology classes from text by clustering lexical substitutes derived from language models“.

In her three-hour tutorial “Knowledge Engineering of Taxonomies, Thesauri, and Ontologies” Heather Hedden will teach us the fundamentals and best practices for creating quality taxonomies, thesauri, and ontologies.

To top it all off: SWC will be present in the main lobby of the venue with a PoolParty booth. Visitors can stop by to learn more about PoolParty, pick up some interesting collaterals, and speak with our team members.

The Semantic Web Company looks forward to meeting guests at SEMANTiCS 2022 in Vienna to celebrate with and learn from experts in their field.
