SUMMARY:Information Architecture Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:The IA conference exists to promote discourse and learning about the intentional design of information environments. It is a gathering of practitioners from around the globe\, who practice and teach Information Architecture and other design-related disciplines. Be the preeminent event for information architecture learning and discourse \n\nThe IA conference prides itself on provoking engaging conversations that take place between conference attendees.\nThe IA conference exposes practitioners to leading best-practices and the latest research.\nThe conference is committed to providing resources for practitioners at all stages of their career.\n\nRevisiting Taxonomies: Topics in Taxonomy Design\nby Heather Hedden\, PoolParty TeamApril 18\, 202211:00 AM to 2:00 PM ET\nCreating a taxonomy is not difficult\, but creating a good taxonomy that is ideally suited for its use can be more challenging\, and requires training and/or experience. Even those experienced in creating taxonomies often face challenges with new taxonomy projects. (That’s what makes taxonomy creation always interesting.) Rather than a repeat of last year’s taxonomy workshop\, this workshop includes some review of the fundamentals\, but quickly moves on to a deeper discussion of specific taxonomy design issues. This intermediate-advanced workshop proposes best practices and guidance for making decisions\, including determining: \n\nHow best to engage stakeholders\nWhat kind of taxonomy structure to create\nWhether to create one or more separate taxonomies for different users\nWhether a given hierarchy should stand alone as its own taxonomy or be a top term within a larger taxonomy\nWhether named entities should be narrower concepts to their category type or in a separate list\nWhether and when it’s OK to not strictly follow hierarchical relationships standards\nIf customized semantic relationships (features of an ontology) should be included and how\n\nCriteria to consider when reviewing an existing taxonomy for revision will also be presented. Finally\, we will also look at examples of taxonomies and discuss how they can be improved. \nClick the button below for more information about the conference and how to register.  \n \n Visit Event page

SUMMARY:External Webinar: The Future of Intelligent Content Management\, Semantic AI and Content Impact
DESCRIPTION:Ontotext Knowledge Graph Forum\n \n \n \n \n \n Webinar hosted by Acrolinx | April 26\, 2022  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Disparate digital experiences (DX) are one of the biggest challenges businesses face today. Poorly thought out or siloed content can not only prevent enterprises from creating the best digital experiences for their customers\, but can ultimately also lead a business to fail to reach its goals. \nAnd even if amazing content is created\, it’s incredibly hard to cut through the noise. In many instances it’s not about having more content generated\, it’s about generating\, managing\, and distributing the right content for your audience. Combining a semantic content hub\, strong content management\, and an intelligent content impact platform can help you create an optimal content solution to drive your business objectives. \nIn this webinar\, Jörg Schmidt (Senior Solutions Architect at RWS)\, Florian Bauer (Senior Solutions Architect at Semantic Web Company)\, and Daniel Nutburn (VP Global Partners and Alliances at Acrolinx) come together to discuss: \n\nWhy it’s important to make sure that your content isn’t only “healthy”\, but all-around fit to create a great digital experience for your customers\nHow to create a roadmap to better content by improving the content supply chain through semantic AI capabilities\nWhat it takes to build a semantic content hub\, from centrally managed taxonomies and automated tagging all the way to semantic search\n\n \n Watch the recording!

SUMMARY:Convex Tempe 2022
DESCRIPTION:Meet Semantic Web Company’s CEO\, Andreas Blumauer and Chief Solutions Officer\, Florian Bauer in Tempe\, Arizona. ConVEx Tempe is a highly interactive event that provides an opportunity to improve communication and collaboration across multiple departments and gives you a rare insider’s look at what is working (or not) for other teams. \nTake a look at the presentations and sessions we are holding: \nThe Semantic Content HubAndreas Blumauer\, Semantic Web Company Inc. \nThe Semantic Content Hub: Ambiguity\, language discrepancies\, and lack of background information are just a few challenges that organizations face on a daily basis when trying to analyze their content and data. This talk will focus on various semantic modeling methods you can use to organize your unstructured data and the benefits of a comprehensive knowledge graph. \nAutomatically Categorize and Tag Content Using Semantic AIFlorian Bauer\, Semantic Web Company Inc. and Chip Gettinger\, RWS \nWhile most reliable CMS have their own native tagging & search\, these pale in comparison to the benefits you can get with automated tagging based on Semantic AI. This session will introduce the concept of auto classification (semantic concept tagging) which allows users to automatically categorize and tag content with rich descriptors that enable advanced findability of content in search engines and will showcase the successful implementation of Semantic AI in Tridion Docs. \nTechnology Test Kitchen – How Semantic AI Applications are BuiltAndreas Blumauer\, Semantic Web Company Inc. \nThis session will explain and demonstrate how to develop customized taxonomies based on text corpus analysis and standard vocabularies. It will be shown how these subsequently act as the core for the development of a comprehensive knowledge graph\, and how this can link content and data across silos in a largely automated way using ontologies and graph-based tagging and mapping. \n \n \n \n \n \n Click the button below for more information about the event and find out how to register.   \n \n Visit Event page

SUMMARY:Special Libraries Association - Annual Conference 2022
DESCRIPTION:The SLA Annual Conference is the premier event for special librarians and information professionals who want to explore the latest challenges and trends in information\, knowledge\, and library management\, refine their skills\, connect with colleagues\, and meet with leading product and service providers. \nThe PoolParty Team is represented by Heather Hedden with multiple pre-event and event sessions: \n“From Taxonomy to Ontology” workshop\nDescription: While taxonomies support findability and information retrieval\, ontologies support additional information retrieval methods\, such as enabling complex queries\, the exploration of different relationships\, and quick access to associated data\, and not just content. The Semantic Web standards\, upon which modern information ontologies are built\, have brought ontologies more closely aligned to taxonomies and other knowledge organization systems\, than the merely computer science use of ontologies of the past. Integrating ontologies with taxonomies has many practical applications\, which increasingly more companies and organizations are implementing. This educational session teaches the fundamental principles of ontologies for information science\, including their definitions\, types\, standards\, benefits\, and uses\, including knowledge graphs. It then instructs by ways of examples\, how to extend a taxonomy to become an ontology\, and then addresses issues in modeling and designing ontology classes\, relations\, and attributes\, including best options and practices. Tools and technologies will also be addressed.Date: Thursday\, July 14\, 2:00 – 4:30 pm EDTFormat: Live online (Zoom)Organizer: SLA (Special Libraries Association) Continuing Education WorkshopsRegistration: $100 for SLA members\, $150 for nonmembers \n“Research Sources and Methodologies for Taxonomy Development”\nDescription: This session explores the information sources and research methodologies available to those who are starting out in taxonomy development. Look at all the options you have:  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Knowledge Engineering of Taxonomies\, Thesauri\, and OntologiesThis tutorial teaches the fundamentals and best practices for creating quality taxonomies\, thesauri\, and ontologies in any industry. Emphasis will be on serving users and use cases\, rather than on theory. Topics to be covered include: different kinds of knowledge organization systems (taxonomies\, thesauri\, ontologies\, etc.)\, Semantic Web standards and other standards\, linking knowledge organization systems\, and enriching a taxonomy or thesaurus to become an ontology and a knowledge graph. \nDate:Tuesday\, September 13\, 2022 – 09:45 to 13:00 (Tutorial at DBpedia Day) \nSpeaker:Heather Hedden\, Data & Knowledge Engineer\, Semantic Web Company\, USA\, and author of The Accidental Taxonomist \n See more details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 1st Workshop on Semantic AIWhile the individual aspects of semantic AI are being studied in their respective research communities a dedicated community focusing on their combination is yet to be established. The proposed workshop intends to contribute to this endeavor. \nDate:Tuesday\, September 13\, 2022 – 14:00 to 17:30 (Workshop at DBpedia Day) \nSpeakers:Sebastian NEUMAIER\, Data Intelligence Research Group\, St. Polten University of Applied Sciences\, AustriaMartin KALTENBÖCK\, Semantic Web Company GmbH\, AustriaMarta SABOU\, Institute for Data\, Process and Knowledge Management\, Vienna University of Economics and Business\, Austria \n See more details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Knowledge-based Recommendation Systems as a Cornerstone of the Digital WorkplaceThere is a great need for intelligent assistants in digital workplaces\, and this more than ever\, considering the increasing degree of decentralization in the post-Corona era.||||Recommendation systems are well known through their use in e-commerce platforms\, but there they often achieve only too low a degree of precision and relevance\, since they only follow the principle of “more of the same” based on “collaborative filtering”. \nDate:Wednesday\, September 14\, 2022 – 10:30 to 12:00 (part of Recommender Systems Session) \nSpeaker:Andreas Blumauer\, Founder & CEO\, Semantic Web Company Inc. \n See more details \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Applying Semantic AI platforms for Augmented IntelligenceIn recent years\, augmented intelligence systems have advanced to provide humans with insights for knowledge discovery and decision making. Using a cooperative approach\, these systems use powerful artificial intelligence (AI) to augment human cognitive activities. To do so\, the AI capabilities have to complement human actions and therefore be explainable and controllable\, while still providing implicit insights based on statistical models. Semantic Artificial Intelligence (Semantic AI)\, as the combination of machine learning and knowledge models\, provides such a methodology. \nDate:Wednesday\, September 14\, 2022 – 10:30 to 12:00 (part of Recommender Systems session) \nSpeakers:Robert David\, CTO\, Semantic Web CompanyPatrice Neff\, Squirro AG \n See more details \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Global Knowledge Graph Market: State of Play and Upcoming TrendsThe Knowledge Graph market has developed into a highly dynamic area\, especially in the last three years. No longer the ‘if’ or ‘why’\, but the ‘how’ and ‘when exactly’ have become the central questions. Numerous application fields and industrial processes that already use graph technologies and plan to use them in the near future benefit from numerous technical developments. \nDate:Wednesday\, September 14\, 2022 – 12:15 to 13:15 (Industry Panel) \nSpeaker:Andreas Blumauer\, Founder & CEO\, Semantic Web CompanyAtanas Kiryakov\, CEO\, OntotextPeter Crocker\, Oxford Semantic TechnologiesJoseph Hilger\, Chief Operating Officer\, Enterprise Knowledge\, LLCJans Aasman\, CEO of Franz Inc \n See more details \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Multilingual Taxonomies and Knowledge Graphs as a Basis for Semantic AI ApplicationsThe domain of taxonomies and ontologies is to structure and enrich data. This makes the data searchable\, findable\, usable\, and\, moreover\, the basis for AI applications. Terminology as the “counterpart” is responsible for ensuring that both data and metadata in the company are uniform and thus reusable and linkable. We show how taxonomy and terminology together make corporate data fit for the future\, and how you can build taxonomies and knowledge graphs alongside classic terminologies. We give concrete examples of how these can be implemented in practice. \nDate:Thursday\, September 15\, 2022 – 10:15 to 11:15 (part of LTI) \nSpeaker:Florian Bauer\, Chief Solutions Officer\, Semantic Web CompanyKlaus Fleischmann\, Kaleidoscope \n See more details \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Semi-automated Generation of Multilingual Domain-specific TaxonomiesThe use of and need for domain-specific taxonomies are rapidly augmenting\, as part of the growing interest in multilingual knowledge management. However\, creating a fine taxonomy for any domain or industry use case can require many months of intensive expert work. To face this challenge\, we converge human created and curated data with automated processes and a Knowledge Graph tool. Namely\, we apply cross-lingual lexicographic content from KD-Lexicala with Semantic Web Company’s PoolParty Semantic Suite to generate multilingual domain-specific taxonomies. \nDate:Thursday\, September 15\, 2022 – 10:15 to 11:15 (part of LTI) \nSpeaker:Martin Kaltenböck\, Member of the Executive Board\, Semantic Web CompanyIlan Kernermann\, K Dictionaries – Lexicala \n See more details \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Click the button below for more information about SEMANTiCS Vienna 2022 and how to register. \n \n Visit Event page

SUMMARY:Bite-Sized Taxonomy Boot Camp London 2022
DESCRIPTION:Semantic Web Company Data and Knowledge Engineer Heather Hedden will participate at the bite-sized taxonomy boot camp on October 12 as a speaker. She will explain practical tips for setting up taxonomy governance. \nHier is a short description of her talk: Too often\, taxonomy governance is the ‘poor relation’ of a taxonomy project\, and yet putting in the effort to get it right pays off in the long-term. Taxonomies that are well-managed stay relevant\, correct and useful. Heather has a wealth of experience and distils it into this session. \n\n\nClick the button below for more information about the conference and how to register.  \n\n\n  \n \n Visit Event page

SUMMARY:The North American Collaboration Summit
DESCRIPTION:We are sponsors of the North American Collaboration Summit 2022\, the place to learn how to harness the power of your Microsoft 365 investments including SharePoint! \nOur colleague Heather Hedden\, Data and Knowledge Engineer at the Semantic Web Company\, will host the following session: \n“ENHANCING TAXONOMY AND TAGGING IN SHAREPOINT”\nAre you wondering how you can improve the quality of search results from tagging in SharePoint? The Term Store is more than just a place to store terms (tags or metadata). Full taxonomies with browsable hierarchies\, search-support synonyms\, definitions\, multilingual terms can be supported and utilized in multiple ways. Leveraging a taxonomy’s benefits\, however\, requires creating a taxonomy according to best practices and standards and applying the terms with consistent tagging policies\, which can be further enhanced with semi-automated tagging. \nThis session will provide tips for creating better taxonomies\, a look at the Term Store’s capabilities and limitations\, recommendations for enterprise taxonomy governance\, and a solution for auto-tagging integration with the SharePoint to ensure efficient\, comprehensive\, and consistent tagging\, which results in improved content findability and user satisfaction. \nBe part of it on October 12-14\, 2022! \nConference registration (Register early for a reduced rate) \n \n Visit Event page

SUMMARY:World Information Architecture Day - New Hampshire 2023
DESCRIPTION:What is the contribution of taxonomies to information architecture? Join Heather Hedden\, Data and Knowledge Engineer at Semantic Web Company\, for this 1-day event at Southern New Hampshire University\, Manchester\, NH. \nHeather will hold a workshop for “Taxonomy Creation.” Look at the description of the workshop: \nTaxonomies help connect users to content\, and they improve findability over keyword search alone. As such\, taxonomies should be created so that they are customized to the content and to the users. How to go about this will be addressed in this interactive workshop. Content analysis and term extraction are methods to make a taxonomy match its content\, and user interviews and brainstorming sessions are methods to make a taxonomy suit its users. Following an explanation of different taxonomy types and features\, exercises will include analyzing a document for candidate concepts\, looking at the results of a term extraction tool and of a search log report. Small breakout groups will then brainstorm a taxonomy structure and top terms to serve the identified users. \n \n \n \n \n \n Click the button below for more information about the event and how to register.   \n \n Visit Event page
